In the UK, chronic kidney disease affects 7.2 million people, diabetes 6 million people, and cardiovascular disease 7.2 million people, costing the NHS £23.8 billion collectively.
Rates of cardio-kidney-metabolic conditions are rising rapidly as the population ages and risk factors increase, placing strain on already-scarce NHS resources.
Physical inactivity and lifestyle pose a major challenge among this patient group. However, only 3 out of 72 NHS units currently offer specific physio-led rehab for those with CKM disease, due to a lack of workforce and constraints on budget.
